While growing up and even to this day, Michael Jackson had made a huge impact in my life, but not as much as the Slurpee has. Tomorrow is Slurpee Day, a great time to reflect on the great moments and memories one has had while enjoying an extremely cold beverage. Slurpees have made me the man I am today, so to you Mr. Knedlik, I say "Thank You."HISTORY: Machines to make frozen beverages were invented by Omar Knedlik in the late 1950s. The idea for Slurpees came when Knedlik's soda fountain broke down, forcing him to put his sodas in a freezer to cool down, which caused them to become slushy. Many people loved them, which gave him the idea to make a machine to help make a "slushy". Early prototypes for the Slurpee machine made use of an automobile air conditioning unit. In 1965 the Slush was first invented and began to be sold by 7-Eleven. Bob Stanford, a 7-Eleven agency director, coined the term "Slurpee" in 1967. 7-Eleven was originally an American corporation, though having been bought by a Japanese company, Slurpees are now sold around the world.
